okay girls - I need your help.

Saturday I have an appointment for a haircut - I hate my hair. I love it long, but it's just getting to the point I'm keeping it up in a messy ponytail all the time cause it takes forever to style, and when it is up in a ponytail it's always falling down cause my hair is so think and heavy.

I want something different. For a long while I've had just a straight haircut, and it's always been past my shoulders (expect for 4 years ago when I cut 12 inches off - which i'll NEVER do again).

I want something either at my shoulder or touching my shouler. I'm thinking about layers, but I dunno. I'm so horrible at picking out a style that looks good, and is easy managble. I want something that looks great when I style it, but also something I can put in a ponytail when i'm lazy :p

Thanks so much!!

Here's somthing I kinda like:

I also attached a pic of me! When I straighten my hair (everytime I wear it down) it's about 3 inches longer than the picture (as you see it can get very curly - especially when it just dries on it's own)

I like your lenght. I think you you should just do layers in the front & do a nice color with highlights.

I love Jessica Alba's hair color here:

I'm in the exact same boat!! I'm getting my hair cut today and I have NO IDEA what to do. I actually saw that same picture of Jenn and I love it!
My hair is so long too and I am going crazy with it. It's getting caught in doors and even in my armpits!!!

Are you planning on doing a color change as well? Cause I think that darker reddish in the pic would look really good with your skin tone. :)

OMG I hate when I close the car door, sit for a second, move my head and OUCH my hair is stuck in the door! It sucks so bad!!! And when I'm sleeping it is either in Chris's way or my way when I turn around :(

No, no change color. I have never died it, and if I do dye it ever I'm going to go for a strawberry blonde or black (I know, big change, haha)

I like this one too

It's getting caught in doors

I almost died laughing at this. Not at you, but my one friend has really long hair. Like almost to her butt, well she used to have a t-top firebird (so it was a really low to the ground car) and she closed the door and she went to turn around and she realized she closed the door on her hair. She started yelling "ouch" but at the same time she was laughing so hard she was snorting. LMAO (I was laughing at her too.) Ok I just had to share b/c you saying that made me laugh.

Your hair looks to be a lot like mine - not only from your picture but also the description about how straightening adds length and it gets very curly if left to dry naturally. I'm also going to bet that your hair has "mood swings" - days where no matter what you try, it just does it's own thing! It's thick and heavy and a mission to style at times, right?

I've been through several hairstyles, and I'd say that if you are looking for a change and you've had your hair a straight length for some time, a layered style would be an excellent choice.

A word of advise though, if your hair tends to be curly, make sure that you have a long top layer; it will help to weight the top layer of your hair down a bit to stop the curl from "bouncing up". Believe me, I've had the unfortunate experience of having the top layer cut too short on a few occasions, and unless you are prepared to sit & straighten your hair every single day, it will be impossible to keep control of it.

My best suggestion would be to say to your stylist to first take off the split / dead ends. Then check the length (remember that if your hair is naturally curly, it is going to look longer when it's wet than when it's dry, so be careful!! Mine is normally up to 2 inches shorter when it's dry than when it's wet). If you are happy with the length it's at, then tell your stylist you want it layered, but that you want to keep as much of the length as possible, and you want a long top layer. (Incidentally, a long top layer will also make it easier to put your hair in a pony tail without irritating wisps of hair falling in your face all the time.)

That way, you hair will be healthy (no dead ends), you'll have a manageable top layer, and you'll still have length. Depending on how many layers, it's a fairly low maintenance style, other than if you want to stop the layers growing out, in which case you need to go for a cut every 6 weeks or so. Most times a well layered cut will look good on thick hair regardless of whether it's dried naturally, or straightened.

Most of the times when I've had it layered, they've done between 3 - 4 layers in all, and it tends to look nice - it gives a lot of shape and structure.

Good luck, and make sure to post photos!

i thought about it for a second, and realized i don't like that many sweep bangs.

So i still think i'm going with the Underwood cut...but i like Eva Longoria's hair too

Eva's hair is adorable and layers would be a great style for you, I'm sure it would look super cute.
