masquerades?

We want a masquerade theme but we arent sure where to start. our colors are red black and gold accents. does anyone have any ideas for decor or meal options that wouldnt look more like mardi gras then masquerade???

for decor take a look at photos from the phantom of the opera. they have a whole masquerade scene in the show/movie (whichever you are looking at pics from) and it does not look mardi gras to me...more sophisticated.
