Hey Ladies :)
I'm getting married in Barbados in September and we're having a cliff-top ceremony. I have a wedding planner down there, but I'm still trying to have as much input as possible. I've been trying to come up with some different ideas to avoid having a "cookie-cutter" destination wedding.
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for ceremony decor outdoors besides an arch?

I would use pillars on either side of you, maybe raise a bit so that the officiant can stand between them, and then you two in front of him/her. You can add beautiful flower bouquets or lush greens in pots on either side, or in heavy-duty vases, depending on wind... I'm sure you want sturdy at the top of a cliff!

Do you have pictures of the area? That really helps with inspiration!! :)

Yeah...these are a couple pics we took when we were down there scouting locations in February. The place is called Bottom Bay :)
This one is a a side view looking toward the edge where the ceremony will be taking place.

...and this one is the view looking out from approx. where we'll be standing.

Wow! What a beautiful setting for a wedding!
An idea is to do columns as opposed to arches:

I really like that one Brat! I was thinking of something along those lines...although it may not be feasible for our cliff-top cause its looking like it would need to be anchored into the ground, which may be difficult what with the cliff being solid limestone!
The draped columns are very elegant as well...hmmm...
Thanks so far girls :) Keep the ideas coming, lol!

Well, my dad made me a chuppah. It was placed on a public dock, so we could not anchor it down either. My dad bought some plastic flower pots and filled them with cement. Then we decorated the the pots and covered them so you could not see them. We used just pvc pipe and then spray painted it brown and then decprated it with curtains from walmart and flowers from a craft store and this is how it turned out! It was pretty windy for us too.

Weighing down with cement in flower pots is a good idea. Or even heavy rock surronding it. Water can also be heavy. Would you have to do this yourself, or would your planner do it?

Wow...that is beautiful...doesn't sound like it was that difficult to make either. I could probably have my planner make something like that pretty easily!

So we decided we're gonna go with your idea. My uncle has agreed to make one pretty much identical to yours with pvc pipe, but we're gonna decorate it with either white sheers or tulle! :D We're putting down a 32 x32 deck to level the area for seating, etc, so we'll should be able to use the cement pots to anchor it down on the deck. Thanks so much!!
Question though....
Any suggestions on how big it should be or do you remember what the dimensions of yours were?

No problem at all. I do not remember the dimensions. I think it was 7 or 8 foot tall, 6 foot wide 4 foot deep.
One thing I would suggest that even thought the pvc pipe is whtie and you are using white cutrains, you should still spray paint it and the pots white. Pvc pipe has black lettering and I would hate for you to not think of that and have black lettering show thru the curtains or tulle.

I did not want an arch either- here's a pic of what I had - two short columns with plants on them
