Ah, I just have to vent. The PGA tour just announced that a division of their tour will be in town on the weekend of our wedding. They are expecting over 30,000 people to be in town, and said that there is not nearly enough hotels to hold everyone. I feel horrible for my OOT guests, as the hotels will be packed, not to mention all the resturants that will be busy. I havent goten the hotel prices in contract yet, so I am affriad the prices are going to skyrocket. Just what I need!

seriously check hotel prices and block rooms so your guests can get hotels. it sucks this is happening because now you need to act quickly.

with the rooms blocked, you should be fine, if your OOT number is close to the # of rooms reserved, you may want to increase the number blocked so you are sure there will be enough. i'd also put something on your wedsite letting your guests know about the PGA, so they aren't surprised. GOOD LUCK!

coming from a hotel supervisor-

if you have a contract of price offers, sign it & turn it in now - hand deliver it!

if you have not gotten prices from them in writing, go there tomorrow & do so.

I havent goten the hotel prices in contract yet, so I am affriad the prices are going to skyrocket.

realistically, if this is correct & you have not contract, you will not be able tog et a discount, but if you act immediately you will still be able to get rooms. with such a major event in town, hotel rates will be set on RACK prices (highest rate) with all discounts closed. I know when the LPGA is in town here (at the same time as the Springfield Mile), most hotel rates are $10-$30 higher than their usual rates.

Be sure that you mention any prices previously quoted to you and any rates offered by the competition that are lower; this may not help you during a peak time, but is worth a shot.

I am sorry this has happened to you. I wish you the best of luck.

i am confused now. she has on her wediste that she has room blocks. would that not already have a conrtact in place then. because when i blocked my rooms that secured my rates

i am confused too! if she has a contract & a room block then she is fine. but if no contract, then no guarantee of rate.

The rooms are blocked under the Ahmed/Blachek Wedding.
that's what it says on her site.

Sorry for the confusion. We have blocked rooms at 2 places. At the hotel where we are having our reception, and then at one other option. The other option gave us a contract, which I just got in the mail today, and the price is now locked. The place where we are having our reception will not do a contract with us, and said the prices will be set per person, when each person calls to reserve a room. The other problem with this place (where we are having the reception), is that they charge us for the rooms that have not been reserved if 80% of the held rooms have not been reserved by 1 month prior to the wedding. (does that make sense?) We only blocked 7 becuase we didn't want to have to pay for rooms, but now I think we are going to be stuck paying for extras if we increase the number, and our guests are going to pay a ton if they stay where our reception is.

thats how the hilton was by me, they gave you a guaranteed price but you had to give them a cc number. so we didn't go that route. can you reserve more rooms at the other hotel? I'd also do STD's now if you are planning on doing them. if not, start calling the guests (only ones you for sure plan to invite) and let them know they will want to book their rooms now before all the hotels are booked.
