Is anyone doing any type of release at their wedding??? Butterfly, dove, etc? I'm having a butterfly release and was curious as to who else was. Are you doing a reading or meaning /explanation with it? I'm thinking of having the officient tell the meaning and legend but I'm not sure. Should i have it done verbally or just put it in the programs]???

I'm morally opposed to such things.
They are neat though. xD

I did a dove release at my wedding. You can see the pictures on my wedpage in the photo album...they make for really good pictures.
I have one of the worst memories ever when it comes to what the guy said...but there was a significance and a story behind us releasing the doves :p
It was sweet.

we thought about having a dove release, because a girl i work with, her dad does them for a living so she said she could get me a deal if we wanted...but then we decided not to do one, because we'll already have our horse carriage, that'll be enough for the guests to see! we'll save the money!
they are neat for pictures though

Our church does not allow anything, so we are not doing it. The Priest does not see a point to it, so it is forbidden.

I can't do the bfly release (too cold) and it is too hard to plan...we can't release balloons (too close to very small local airport), can't throw anything (unless we want to clean up before church starts at 6), not doing bubbles (don't want to ruin my dress)...so i'm not really anyhelp...but I would put in programs and have someone say it while you are doing it.

Sorry, I just realized that my comment did not come across like I meant it. I did not want to imply that I agree with my Priest...I would have liked to have rice or bubbles or something, but the way he said it was frivolous pretty much told everyone don't even bother asking me about it - not gonna happen.
I would explain it in more detail in the program, and have the officiant explain a little bit of it and mention the program.

Umm.....yeah....It's been an open-mouth-insert-foot-should-not-have-gotten-out-of-bed kind of day :) Sorry I assumed that...don't apologize :) LOL I might be a little oversensitive from those knotties....

I talked to FMIL yesterday & we are doing the dove release. Does anybody have any sayings or poems that I could put in the program to explain it?

FIREGIRL,
Here's something I found on the page with my butterfly release info. ( I found it at: http://www.4wed.net/readings.htm ) Hope it helps:D
Ceremonial Dove Release
The "Ceremonial Dove Release” has been a custom for centuries. The "Noblemen of Olde" released the dove as symbols of their eternal love for their brides to be. Doves choose one partner for life and make this commitment until death. The white dove has been used throughout history as a symbol of Love, Peace, Purity, Faithfulness and Prosperity. It is said that if doves are seen on your wedding day, a happy home is assured. These birds released here today represent the love and commitment you have given to one another this day. From this day forward, when ever you see a white dove, may you be reminded of this moment"
Release of Doves
The release of Doves in ceremonies extends the message of Peace, the celebration of Life, and the expression of Love. Releasing doves uplifts the eyes, signifies new beginnings and true celebrations in flight. In Scripture doves are more numerous than all other species. Luke 3:22 states: "The heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in the form of a dove." The dove is the symbol of peace, and the presence of the Spirit. They have been chosen by God to be the messengers of the day.
Legend of the Dove
Once the Lord of heaven chose two doves, both young and fair, and told them of a very special journey they would share. "Go now upon the earth and see two hearts where you may dwell, and there I shall surely come and make my home with you as well. We'll join the two and make them one. A Husband and his Wife, my spirit will endow their love with everlasting life." Today the Doves will bring the sacred promise from above, to those whose hearts are open to the miracle of LOVE.

We are thinking about doing a butterfly release, In Australia there is a company that sells a butterfly that is native all around Australia (we didn't want to release something foriegn). We will only just make it in the time though as our wedding is in Autumn and they don't sell them during late autumn/winter as the butterflies hibernate. I think that the butterflies are such a great idea, a more subtle and fun twist on the doves (and without the poop!).

We will be releasing doves after the wedding ceremony outside the church. Because the shrine that we will be married has a vast open space, we have decided to release the doves there instead of the usual norm of releasing them during the reception. But we will be releasing butterflies, a hundred of them during the mid part of the party/reception after the cake cutting. We have coordinated with our hotel to make a 6 ft. cherry blossom tree for us which will be covered by a tulle cloth and lighted from underneath, and inside it will be the butterlies. We just have to hold on to one end of the tulle cloth and pull it out to release the butterflies. We plan this to be one of the highlights in our party.:)

We did a butterfly release at the end of the ceremony. We did it to honor our niece who died of cancer in may who was supposed to be our flowerdirl. She loved butterflys and her headstone is even in the shape of a butterfly. However, we did not say anything about it during the ceremony or in programs etc because DH was afraid that if we too much stuff like that then it would take away from it being "our" day and become all about others (this was due to my many ideas about honoring fam members who have passed away) We figured that whoever was close enough to our family would understand the symbolisim and if not then it would just be something pretty :)
you can't see the butterflies really well in this pic but this was what it looked like:

We are doing a butterfly themed wedding. I really wanted to do a butterfly release, but have since then read an article which changed my mind. Anyone who is considering a butterfly release at their wedding please, please, please read this article first. http://www.naba.org/weddings.html Thanks.

i wanted to do some kind of released...like butterfly or dove in memory of my grandparents and my FH's eldest sister who died of cancer at the age 38...however, religiously...i am oppose to the idea...therefore i am actually gonna release balloons with our names and wedding date printed on one side and on the other side will say print the "in loving memory of..." names of my grandparents, FH's grandmothers, FH's great-grandmother, & his eldest sister

For any of you that did a butterfly release how was your expierence with that?
I was talking with some family members and they mentioned that sometimes you will get butterflies that are dead.
I really like this idea and would love to do it, but I am too afraid I will pay for a package and then some will be dead.
