Some others may from rooftops cry, I offer you this simple poem,
Though trials had us hard put by, these three years have we closer grown.
While friendship gave us many a grief, it proffered joyous moments too.
To sum our courtship thus in brief, I choose to live my life with you.

Picture this:

Where: Young United Church on Broadway in Winnipeg

Occasion: "Everything's Coming Up Roses" Dinner Theater Concert by Ecco

When: February 11, 2006

Decorations of hearts, red, and love are all over. The sanctuary has been set up as a banquet hall, and the tables are beautifully decorated. The choir is all dressed up in red tops and black pants. My evening is kept busy by selling silent auction tickets, and just generally directing people where to go. I get a few minutes of being with my boy, but otherwise we're very busy with our respective tasks.

During the show, I sat in the back, guarding the doors, and making sure everything was ok. There are three sets of songs, where the breaks give the choristers chances to serve appetizers, and mingle with the people. I hang around the silent auction tables, selling tickets to stragglers. Marg- the choir director and Chad's aunt comes and talks to me; offers to make me a very unique scarf, and asks me if I could sing with them for their final concert- she really needs another singer. I agree, though that means I'll be pulling double duty for the rest of the season. We go back in for the second set, and the choir delights the audience with Broadway, and other crazy comedy. My wonderful boy shows off his acting and singing talent to the fullest. Little do I know how nervous he is underneath, and what kind of a stunt he is about to pull.

Just before the 2nd break, he goes up to help with auction draws, in which he takes the baskets to audience members, and gets them to draw from the basket. Phil, the emcee, announces that there is one last, special door prize. This did not need to be entered for- everyone's names have been automaticallly entered. (I find out later that Chad had handwritten my name on, cut and folded 52 little slips of paper to put in that basket!!) Chad takes the basket to an audience member, and brings the name back up to Phil. Phil calls my name, and I snap to attention from where I was just talking with Joanie. (another choirister) I walk up to the stage with a quizzical look on my face, and wonder how-the-heck I managed to be called. I see the bag, and am told to get my prize. They're not giving it to me. Why is Phil turning me around- can't I just take the present and leave?

I find myself turned around, and facing Chad. It's then that I realize that something is up. He looks at me, and begins reciting the poem. I freeze in shock, and tears begin streaming down my face, and I cannot stop shaking. He leans over, pulls out a little box from the bag, and opens it up to show the ring. I'm beyond in shock. I can't even get the voice to say yes. I tremulously lean in to kiss him, and hide in the warmth of his neck. The audience is standing, cheering, whistling and crying. I'm told to say yes, and finally manage to get it out. People can't stop cheering and clapping. We exit through a side exit, but after a while decide to come out and see Marg. We come to the area where the female choristers are standing, and they all come and attack us. They have been reduced to mushy tears, and can't get over how incredibly romantic it was. Every member in the audience comes up to us to congratuate us- it's like a mini taste of a wedding. Various members of the choir come up to us and tell us that they want to sing at our wedding. That would be absolutely amazing- I've always wanted a choir at my wedding, and what's more suitable than having the choir that was there for when we were engaged sing for us. Choir is a passion for both Chad and me, so our wedding is going to be very inundated with this style of music!

Many tell us that this totally made their evening- it was the most romantic proposal ever, and so many were in tears. Some people wonder if it was staged, and are amazed when they find out it was for real. His mom was there, and was beyond thrilled.

It was the most perfect evening, ever, and so much more than I could have ever asked for in a proposal!
