That's a tough situation, but I would gently break the news to him that he is not invited. I don't think that guests should not assume that they are invited until they have an invitation in the mail. Maybe thats just my opinion, but that is wrong!!! It's YOUR wedding and you can invite anyone you want to!!

How do you know this guy? I mean is he a freind that you regularly see or hang out with or a fmily member, b/c its kind of odd that he would just book a ticket without even getting an invitation. I don't know why people like to invite themselves.
I'd say, either you can try to explain real nicely that you are paying per person, and everything has already been paid for, so you can't have any more guests. (or that your space only allows so many people, and you reached your max) Or you could just grin and bare it. :o
I second that!!

Hire security. Or get a friend/relative who is "big" and throw him out. I had that done and have called upon secuirty at my sister's reception, it was at a hotel, to have someone thrown out who wasn't invited.

I agree that you should break it to him nicely. Just tell him that you have opted for a small intimate wedding with family only.

A couple people invited themselves to my wedding, booked plane tickets and everything. I let them come; it wasn't a big deal. Just said hey, one of 'em gave us $300 for a gift so that was sweet.
But if you really can't stand the thought of having him there (unless your wedding is very small, I doubt you'd even notice he's there), then I'd go with the "we're keeping it really small" excuse.

I completly know what you are feeling. And to be honest. I just decided to let it go. I have a Bridesmaid who assumed she was IN the wedding when I asked what are you doing on such date? meaning you are invited. Not INvited. So we added another Bestman. But I like her so it's easier.
