Here is the story.
I played on a University Volleyball team in the US and every year on the last home game of the year the seniors on the team are commemorated with a tribute to them before the start of the game and a dinner /speech afterwards.
Well my family never really came to see me play as they lived in Canada, however most of them made it a point to show up on this weekend.
Turns out my wonderful "now" fiance, was scheming behind my back for the perfect proposal. He had been in contact with my family, friends, teammates and even coach to make this happen.
After the game we had a bbq and my coach stood up and said that we were starting a new tradition and that members of the team were to go up and speak a few words about the seniors and their experiences with them. Well, there were only two seniors in our class and there were many people that went up and talked. All of a sudden Steve got up and made his way to the front. Despite me grabbing his arm and saying "What the hell are you doing"(he didnt' really know the other senior and I was embarrassed that he was going up!!)he continued. He talked about how you need to have friendship, communication and trust to have a successful team. After going into detail and rambling for waht seemed an eternity, he stated that these three things were also important in relationships. He called me up with him and went on to tell me how much he loved me, and eventhough we hadn't been together that long that he knew I was the one.
He got down on one knee with a ring and asked me to marry him. I began to SOB and fell into his arms. About 3 minutes later the crowd of my teammates and their families and mine all started screaming "did you say yes??"
I wiped the tears away and said yes....
I was sooooo completely caught off guard and had no clue that it was going to happen and that is exactly what I wanted. I still dont' know how he managed to keep all my friends mouths shut...especially my roomie!!
It was absolutely PERFECT!!
