My boyfriend and I made plans to go on a Spirit of Boston harbor dinner cruise with his sister Jill, her husband Eric, his cousin Joel and his girlfriend Mary. This cruise was three days after Eric and Jill's 8th wedding anniversary so I was told that was the reason we were celebrating. We took a limo into Boston, arrived at the marina and boarded first class for an evening dinner cruise. About an hour into the cruise my boyfriend pulled me aside and told me that Eric had a surprise for Jill. He had asked the DJ to play their wedding song as a special dedication to Jill and their 8 happy years together. I thought it was romantic and was excited to be "in on the secret". Well, about 8:30 the DJ announces that this next song is going out to Eric and Jill and Congratulations on 8 years! We are all out dancing to Shania Twain's From This Moment On and at the end of the song the DJ asks where Jill and Eric are. We all start shouting and pointing at them and the DJ comes over and hands the mic and a dozen roses to Eric. I am sitting here thinking, "Oh how sweet. Eric is going to say something to Jill". WELL....my boyfriend starts to grab the roses from Eric and I start swatting his hand going, "What are you doing?! Those are for Eric to give to Jill!" Then my boyfriend grabs the mic. He says, "I want to say thank-you to my sister and brother-in-law for letting me use them as a cover tonight. I actually have something I'd like to ask my girlfriend. At this point, I catch on to what is happening and I gasp and my hands fly up to my face. He says, "Sara you have made me happier than anyone ever has and I love you so much. I can't imagine my life without you and I just have one question to ask you." He hands the mic to Eric, gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. Now keep in mind we are in the middle of a dance floor on a yacht with about 300 people so everyone starts screaming and yelling and flashes are going off everywhere. I was completely shocked and of course I said Yes!! Little did I know, that Ian had been planning this for month's and had called the ship ahead of time so everyone from the manager to the DJ to our waitress was in on it. They also had his cousin hiding in the corner of the dance floor with a vide camera so the whole thing is on tape! Now I have a great souvenir of that night!
