What are your mothers wearing?
I can't remember the last time I saw my mom in a dress - if ever! OR even a skirt - years. I have been trying to help her find something nice to wear. Suggestions? She is a plus size, maybe an 18? not sure though on size.
Would like it to compliment our colors - joyberry & lemon. I keep finding great outfits, but only in black!

my mom is wear this dress from famous barr. it was in the homecoming section but i dont think i would have worn that to homecoming. it's very fitting for my mom.
it's a gold color looks bad on hanger but good on her type of dress. it has the drape neck and it is long with a slit.

My mom (or FMIL) neither one want anything fancy. We've been looking at Chadwick's and JC Penneys.
Update: I just showed my mom a dress I found at Chadwick's (http://www.chadwicks.com) & I think we may have a winner. And it's only $59.00 :)

my mom is wearing 2 dresses. one to church a little less fancy and from boscovs for like 50 bucks on clearance. its like a seafoam green color. the second she got on clearance at a bridal shop. its black and a little more fancy. i absolutely dont mind her wearing black. i think black is elegant and since my girls arent wearing black i could care less, i actually pushed her to get it. ill see if i can find a pic

Have you looked at Davids Bridal? They have some nice stuff...also, check out some bridal shops - sometimes they have nice "mother" dresses...Good luck! Let us know what you choose! ;)

Cara gave me these sites to check out. I explained the slutty & old issue (those seem to be the 2 choices in MOB styles).

There are no prices posted, but if you cantact a bridal shop they should be able to find out for you.
In the store my friend Kay & I saw a great outfit that would look nice on my mom. But I can't find the designer so far. The label said Nebiana.

I personally am in love with Cameron Blake's (http://www.moncheribridal.com/gowns.asp?oSWF=true&oDB=cameronBlake) line of dresses. They are very classy and perfect for the "not 18, not 80" category. :p The problem??? They are SO expensive! :(
This is the dress that my mom and I both fell in love with for her:

Unfortunately, it's $400!!!
I think that we may end up looking into the option of using one of the online services that make custom dresses. Maybe see if we can get something similar for a better price.

Mistylark~I'm in the same situation as you. My Mom hasn't worn a dress or a skirt for YEARS!! And she's probably around the same size. Here are a few that I kinda liked, but I'm still waiting on her opinion:

Some good ideas in here! I want my mom to feel beautiful on my wedding day.. She's tall and thin, but she doesn't want to show her upper arms.. So we're looking for something that will show off her figure but cover her arms a little bit.. Hmm, we haven't seen THE dress yet.. She wants something really fancy :D

Here's my mom's. It's a weird color- gold/sage green/silver, and shiny so it changes in the light. It usually looks more green, but the sunlight that day really brought out the gold. It came with a beautiful matching wrap. She's gonna let me borrow it for my honeymoon (we don't leave til monday, so it'll be handwashed on Sunday). If I loose the weight I plan to, it might be a little big, but it's just so beautiful!

My mom said she is going to wear something in a sage green (it is one of her fav. colors.) She said more like a suit than a dress. She might look at Christoper Banks or is it Christopher & Banks? i forget.

My mom is 5'11", basically 6', and is having troubles finding a gown that fits her height! She doesn't want a jacket dress and would like something sleeveless. Any suggestions on sites or shops to find tall dresses??

I found the answer to my question!
Tonight I was looking at Jade dresses by Jasmine, which has great MOB dresses and I found a few that my mom would like. Since Jasmine doesn't have any retailers around where I live, I looked on www.thebridalshop.com and found the same dress. Plus, you can order 5 extra inches and have express shipping (4 weeks). I showed my mom everything and she loved it, but it will come to $400 total... oh my. So we'll see what my step-dad says about it. I hope we get it, it's totally her style.
Jade Style J6675- it would be in the color Jade

I really like that one you found Sarah. I'm sure she'll look great in it! My mom would really like that one too...now if only I could get FMIL to get her dress already!

Thanks alot guys! My mom has been freaking out wondering why she put getting a dress off for so long. She's going to call the company soon and ask about the dress before ordering.
Jacqui- I know what you mean about your FMIL not getting a dress yet, my FMIL hasn't even thought about it!

My mom is having a hard time. She is 5"3' and a size 24. She also hate dresses/skirts. Everything we find is either black or white. She bought a flowing pant suit at Cato, but the color is kind of a yellow/creame and my mom's skintone doesn't work to well with those type colors. My BM are wearing burgundy and the MOG is wearing a light brown/beige. My mom also bought a silver skirt set from Lane Bryant, but the top is so heavily beaded that it makes it very heavy and hot. Not good for a summer Mississippi wedding. Any suggestions? Any other stores besides department stores that you know of that sell this sort of thing?

Believe it or not, my mom got a bridesmaids dress to wear. It is not the same one that my girls are wearing, but the goes with the color scheme. I have pics on the thread right below this one titled "Mother of the Bride and Bridesmaids." My mother didn't want anything that would make her look "motherly" if you know what I mean. haha She's pretty into fashion trends and this will make her look very classy. My MIL is a plus size woman and will be wearing a beautiful cream colored suit. She does not feel comfortable in a dress, so this suit works out wonderfully. She looks just absolutely gorgeous in it too.
