Latina here! Nice to see that there are some of us out there!
As for the madrina thing. I have none! I, like you, wanted to pay for my own stuff and pick what I like.
Can you talk to your family and tell them what it is YOU want for YOUR wedding?? I'm sure that they would be understanding. Have you tried that? iF not, give it a shot. I hope all works out for you! Good luck!
Peace and Love...

Hi...I am Part Mexican & Spanish...but Raised in a 100% Mexican Family. So I do know what you are talking about. For our Wedding we are having the Typical Bridal Party, but we are having three Couples which are kinda like Padrinos/Madrinas that will be Presenting us with the Blessing of Longevity/Rosary, Blessing of Prosperity/Gold Coins and Blessing of the Bible. We are having a Tradition Catholic Ceremony.

My family at first wanted me to do the madrina/padrino tradition. Because yes it does help out a ton with finances. But I want things how I want them so we will be paying for everything. As I am not having a catholic wedding, I decided that I will not go this route and formally ask people to be "sponsors." I know that as the date gets closer, I will have family members asking what they can help with. I think I'm just going to tell them that if they really want to contribute they can contribute any way they would like to. If they give $, I will apply this to costs and on my wedding program I will list those (madrina/padrino) that contributed. I know as this has been my family tradition that some may be offended if I tell them that I do not need their help. I do plan on paying for it all and I am not relying on the $. I think that if any do step forward, that saves me some $ to spend while we are on our honeymoon or save.

Latina checking in :wavey:
I'm not doing the madrina drill either. My fiance and I are both a lot older and can certainly afford to pay for our own wedding. Besides all this extra stuff just makes the ceremony all that much longer. I don't need that. We're already having a full Catholic mass as it is. With a unity candle and offering of flowers to the Virgin Mary. Ok I take that back. Maybe I am having just ONE madrina and that's because I feel that the offering of the flowers to the Virign Mary is very important. But I don't want to add the Arras and Lasso to the ceremony.
My mom on the other had has been nothing but a pill on the matter. :sigh: I just kinda had to tell her that I'd take care of it. And when she'd ask me again I just tell her that my Fiance and I have decided not to do that part of the ceremony. End of discussion and I change the subject. I think I've gotten old enough and mature enough to where I've proven my point with her and she doesn't argue with me. Though she can get to be a little pushy at times. But for the most part she is good about respecting my decisions.
Now if I could just get her to stop inviting cousin so and so whom I haven't seen in over a decade! Aye aye aye!!!

YAY!!! I'm [half] Latina too!!! It's actually kind of nice because both sides of my family are very rich in culture and Dan (my gringo fiance) really isn't so he's completely embracing all the traditions I'm throwing at him. Our cake topper is "Dia De Los Muertos" themed and I think we're going to do the exchanging of coins, too.

Hey Kateandal,
My fiance is from El SAlvador too. His family is coming from the states and El Salvador too. We are trying to incorporate Latino traditions as well. Our ceremony will be half in Spanish and Half in English. Our first song is a salsa.
If anyone has another ideas, please help:)

I've noticed that a lot of what we do here they also do in Honduras (where my family is from), so I don't have to incorporate too much, I will play some latino music though so no one feels left out, but my ceremony will be in English.
I also might have a cousin or someone buy the favors in Honduras so they would be custom but we'll see how money is. lol.

if you don't want your madrina to pay for anything that is fine but they can still get the title and perhaps plan some part of your day like take care of dressing the bridal suite or make sure that you get to eat during your reception. Help you with the receiving line. Or pass the word around about the dollar dance. The role is supposed to help you and your hubby to be have a stress free day and begin your marraige stress free like the wedding at Cana ( that was our Gospel reading and we try to live that out).

kateandal- We are still deciding where to go for our honeymoon. I haven't been to El Salvador yet, so that was one of our choices. Its funny because if we go there, we would be going to Honduras and either Belize or Costa Rica.
Similar to you guys! We are hoping to take a month of work to travel after the wedding but we are still planning it out. Have fun on your trip:)

Latina here!!!
I'm Puerto Rican & my fiancee is Mexican. I'm not doing the madrina/padrino thing since we're just having a simple ceremony/reception. We will have latin music since we'll be marring in San Juan & will have a lot of my family there.
I'd love to see pics from the girls who have already married.
