oh, and I remember being in recovery - I was sooooo cold. The best thing are the warmed blankets. Ask the nurse for them!

For wisdom teeth they usually administer local. They like to call it "deep sedation" but you're essentially put to sleep. An epidural is also local or reginal anesthesia.

Sorry I'm no help as far as general. I'll never be able to have it because of a hereditary allergy. I know it must be scary for you not going through this type of thing before. I would also be scared but I know you're in the hands of skilled doctors and will come through it just fine. All the best. We will be thinking of you.

I thought local anesthesia was where you are aware of your surroundings but can't feel anything?

I was completely put under, I don't remember anything except going to sleep

I was put under for my wisdom teeth removal. it took awhile to get coherent after waking up, but other than that, no problems.

I had local, they put me into "deep sedation" but to me it was like I was out cold. They can do more than just numbing the area.

The only thing I've ever had was a spinal (no tube in my back its just a shot) and an IV with some pain meds during my c-section. It made me fall asleep not really knocked out. I guess my biggest fear is not waking up. I'm sure the chances are super slim but with the girls it worries me to bits. I recovered from a c-section and with this cut being much smaller that's not really a fear. If I could just have local I would feel so much better about the whole deal.

You will wake up. When they stop giving you the drug, your body wakes up. And when your not getting the drug and being forced awake, your body wakes up. Maybe not fully, but it does. You'll be fine.

It's scary when you have no control over what is basically passing out, especially when you have a lot to live for. (the kids, your hubby, etc..) But I assure you, the hype is the scariest part. Once it's over, you'll be like, "Oh, that wasn't so bad." and laugh about it.

Some people have problems (naseau, mood swings, headaches, increase or decrease in temp) but you have dealt with anesthesia from having your c-sec.. it's really no different. I personally didn't have any side effects, but if you do, it's nothing you can't handle.
