Ceremony Music Nightmare :(

I was so happy that we finally got our first dance song picked out...but now my joy has been turned into stress over the ceremony music

Here's my problem: we have no wedding party and the sanctuary we're getting married in is small. So basically, every song we think of turns out to be way too long

We're doing the unity candle thing, so our minister said people usually play music while the mothers light the candles and are seated before the service...but it'll take all of 1.5 minutes to escort them in, have them light the candles and sit them down.

It'll take no time at all for the minister and groom to take their places and will only take about a minute for me to walk down the aisle (no flower girls either).

So what the heck can we do?? My initial thought was to have one song play throughout all of this - but that leaves us with the problem of nobody knowing when I enter.

I don't want a lot of weird "nothing happening" time just so that a long song can complete. We've also thought of shortening long songs, and have one that would probably work for the candle lighting and groom/minister taking places. But I'm still clueless as to what song to play when I come in I don't want the traditional "here comes the bride."

The minister will be talking while we do the unity candle thing, so we don't need music there. The only other place we'd need it is after everything's over for the recessional. And we have a couple ideas for that already.

Argghh...why does this have to be so hard?

When the minister says "please rise for the bride," people are gonna know you're coming in! We had a small ceremony venue and I only had one song for the entrance and it was absolutely fine. I didn't worry about timing it so that I walked in during a specific part of the song.

My music for the recessional didn't even start playing, so we walked back up the aisle in silence. It seemed awkward at the time, but it really wasn't a big deal at all.

I wondered if the minister could say something like that. I'm glad to know that others have done it that way!!

I did one song for me and the bridal party (check out my website - Towers). It worked out fine. Try to find a song like I did that has kind of a semi break that signaled the difference between the bridal party and myself. (Trust me I was worried about this)

If you know someone who can DJ on the computer they can put something together for you.

I know how to do it.

Like play one song. Fade it out and start another. Something like that.

That's what I would suggest - I have a DJ friend who has done that for others and it worked beautifully - great idea Calogero!!

Whew, I think we got it figured out. And we're getting to stay with the original song we had planned to use - so yay!!

For the mothers being escorted in, lighting the candles, sitting down and then the minister and groom taking their places, we'll play the first two verses of "Storybook Love" from The Princess Bride. The cut we made is 2:19 long. Then there will be silence for a moment and a cut of "A Happy Ending" from The Princess Bride will start up for my entrance. It's 1:14 long. It's got such a wonderful princess, fairy-tale sound to it and it's just gorgeous...I can't wait!!!

Now we've just got to decide on the recessional...lol. We might use something sprightly from Gaelic Storm.

Thanks for the advice everybody!!!
