Internship, Job, IDK?!

I have worked at Hobby Lobby for my past two summers. They were good to me (yay raises!) and I loved utilizing the discount (especially on wedding supplies ) but I feel like I should be looking for something that might look better on a resume and help me out in terms of my major. Right now I am trying to decide whether to major in Accounting/Finance or Business Management. I've been looking around at internship opportunities and it seems easier to find internships in accounting/finance than management by far. I'm really hoping to do an internship this summer b/c I know it would be really hard to get one next summer since I will be getting married right in the middle of it.

There is one internship here in Tulsa that I am interested in. It's a small company and a financial advisor internship might be neat. However, I am also considering possibly just pursing a job as a teller or something at a local bank to gain experience in the bank world in general. I need to make up my mind quickly before the openings close up. I'm just not sure what to do!

I'm going to career services this week to try to get a resume together. The only one I have was one I hammered out late one night as a freshman orientation assignment

I would go for the internship, since that may open some new doors for you. Always go with your gut feeling.

I think you should definitely go for the internship. I'm in a co-op program and I'm currently on my 4th 4-month co-op term. I've learned soo much from my past co-ops and it has really built up my resume. It's also a great way to make business contacts for after graduation.

Good luck!

Are internships paid? If not you could try proposing that you would intern for half days and try to work at the bank for the other half of the day (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) and then you might be able to do both which would look even better on your resume - and help you decide which you'd prefer to purse after graduation.

Some are, some aren't, in my field they are not which sucks! I still had bills to pay including paying for the credits to do the internship so I had to work

That's too bad... I don't know how a place could expect an intern to pay for bills and tuition without paying her/him. I guess people manage but I certainly wouldn't be able to afford school without the money from my co-op terms.

I don't think that most internships are paid. Teachers don't have internships, but we do student teach. Of course it was unpaid since obviously schools don't have the extra money to pay students. And, I had to pay a higher tuition rate to do the student teaching. So I did work weekends just to have some money. My dh also did an internship while in college. It was with the local police department and was also unpaid, but was more of a learning experience than actual "work" because it would be unsafe for a student to do police work.

At my school we have a well established co-op program (co-op terms are basically the same as internships) and you can do co-op with almost any major but as far as I know they are always paid (I've never heard of someone having an unpaid co-op term).
